Calling All Scouts: Caden Rodkewich is Minnesota’s Top QB Recruit

Caden Rodkewich is Minnesota’s top QB recruit despite having a new head football coach every year for the last 3 years. Rodkewich has endured a lot of change in his high school career to say the least. This could be one of the reasons St. Anthony’s football team started the season slow with 4 consecutive losses as they tried to master, 1st year head coach, Ray Kidd’s new offense.

However the fortunes of the Huskies senior quarterback seemed to change on Sept. 30th with a 50-22 homecoming win over North St. Paul in which Rodkewich threw for a gaudy 6 touchdowns and 368 yards. Since this season defining win Rodkewich and the St. Anthony Village Huskies have rattled off 5 straight wins. It seems Caden has really started to grasp his new offense to put it mildly, catapulting his stats through the stratosphere, where he leads the state in Touchdowns, Yards and Completions.  

Rodkewich is putting together an historic season at St. Anthony Village High School — and he’s not done yet. While other quarterbacks in the state like Max Shikenjanski (Stillwater) and Jacob Kilzer (Maple Grove) have received D1 offers with lesser numbers, Rodkewich continues to post eye-popping performances week in and week out. 

Keeping all of this in mind, some local journalists have contemplated where Caden should be ranked amongst other high school quarterbacks in the state of Minnesota. Here’s a comparison between two of the state’s top ranked QBs.

Player A: 147 completions, 2,194 yards, 26 touchdowns, 274.2 yards per game

Player B: 138 completions, 1,927 yards, 21 touchdowns, 240.9 yards per game

Player B has committed to the University of Minnesota. Player A, better known as Caden Rodkewich from St. Anthony Village High School, is waiting patiently for a D1 offer. If that’s surprising to you, consider this: Rodkewich leads ALL of Minnesota to date in completions, yards and touchdowns! 🤯

He also has St. Anthony Village on a five-game winning streak including a playoff win over St. Paul Como. One of those games features a victory over St. Paul Johnson on Oct. 14 where Rodkewich threw for 388 yards and 5 TDs that garnered him Player of the Week honors from 612 Quarterbacks. 


He then followed that game up with 418 total yards and 8 TDs the next week, which included 57 yards and a score on the ground. Check out the highlights from that game below:

All-Around Student-Athlete

For programs truly searching for student athletes, Rodkewich is a superstar both in the locker room and in the classroom, as he owns a 3.8 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. He’s also enrolled in PSEO and AP/Honors courses. And just as impressive, Rodkewich likes to spend his free time working with youth sports, where he’s volunteered hundreds of hours over the past couple of years. But that’s not all. So What’s the Hold Up?

It’s not the stats. It’s not the schoolwork. It’s not the extra-curricular activities. It’s not the leadership. It’s not the height (Rodkewich stands 6’2”). So, what is it? If anyone is nit-picking, maybe they’re looking at the release points, or throwing motion but even then it’s difficult to find a case as his quick release and arm strength remove all doubt. Plus, look at guys like Phillip Rivers, Teddy Bridgewater, Patrick Mahomes. Those guys all had a unique motion that may have caused some pause for coaches and scouts, but you see how that turned out. 

If programs are looking for a winner, both on and off the field, Caden Rodkewich is the answer. While he currently has DIII offers, he knows he can make an impact and continue his prominent play at the D1 level.
